Development Concept for the P.A. Oyunsky Yakutsk State Literary Museum
Timeless culture
architecture
Location: Yakutsk, 70th Quarter, 10 Oktyabrskaya Street
Area: 0.35 hectares
The P.A. Oyunsky Literary Museum is located in the city center.
On site:
- stone museum building, built in 1981
(architects I.A. Sleptsov, G.U. Germogenov);
- replica of the Oyunsky family yurt;
- memorial house-museum of the Oyunsky family.
Main goal
The development of the territory is to be made with minimal alteration: original layout and buildings were preserved, and new additions were minimal and mindful - we built a pavilion resembling the national Sakha dwelling - urasa, for a souvenir shop and arranged an exit to the roof of the museum.
Timeless culture
Conservation and presentation of the history of Sakha culture will not be the only purpose of the museum - it will become an influential public space. It will be an attraction point for locals and tourists alike, creating a unique space for creativity, communication and learning.
General plan
A series of actions to restore the façade's historical appearance will be considered. A special emphasis will be put on the entrance unit: the main door will be restored to its original appearance and will be painted the traditional blue color that was often used back then for wooden building decor.
The project also considers the reconstruction of the roof, which will be made accessible. Museum visitors can get on to the roof and enjoy panoramic views of the city.
Integration of businesses
A close collaboration with local businesses and artisans is of importance for the museum’s development, as it enriches the experience for the visitors in many ways. This partnership is conducted through various thematic master-classes on traditional Sakha crafts and creation of high-quality souvenirs.
The proposed restoration of the entrance unit’s historical appearance includes the reconstruction of the missing entrance arch that was intended in the original architectural design. This is to highlight the main entrance of the museum complex, recreate the authentic architectural appearance of the façade, and enhance its visual identity.
Interior
Clean, minimalist and functional interior, making the exhibits the main point of focal clarity.
Logo
The central idea of the museum logo is a link between cultures and generations. The logo represents the Mission of the Museum:
Balagan (traditional Sakha dwelling) symbolises the origins of folk wisdom and oral tradition - Olonkho. For centuries, these dwellings were homes for storytellers, who preserved the tales and epics of Sakha.This is a home of the very spirit of Sakha people.
Books symbolise literary works, modern culture and the legacy of such influential Sakha writers as Platon Oyunsky. Books connect oral tradition to literary.
Conjunction of these two symbols relays that Sakha literature has a longstanding history of ancient and powerful traditions. The museum becomes a home to the Sakha tales.
Elongated letters reference the architecture of Sakha dwellings and the style of older fonts. This reinforces the authentic imagery and creates a clear association with cultural heritage.
